Another major accomplishment today on my regular run: I didn’t stop, but this time, it was 3 miles!

My knee was feeling a little funny half way through (probably sore from the hill work Saturday). I really had to focus on lowering the impact and absorbing the shock in my entire body and not my legs. That was pretty tiring. Everything feels good right now. Tonight when I get home from work, I’m going to ice it a lot. It looks like I will be investing in a knee brace SOON.

Thanks for reading!

slow up ray; try to figure out that knee pain. r you wearing the right shoes for your stride? are you striding correctly? do you have a disparity in strength in your leg muscles (hams vs quads or anything)? go to a good local running store if you havent yet. they can help you

you are talking like the knee pain is old hat…. not worth it to run in pain & it’ll get irritating. build a solid foundation

HaHa! The knee pain is old hat. I had surgery on it about 4 years ago and there has always been a slight twinge of pain. I have to ice it and before I run, I’ve started to warm it up with a heat pad and stretch it often.
It is “ok” but I’m starting to cycle more now so that I can build up more muscle around it. I did lots of weight training with them before I tried to train again for a marathon. I also take a supplement called “fast flex” which is supposed to help repair joints and cartilage. I’m just doing as much as I can to prevent any MORE injuries! I don’t think I will ever be pain free again.

I did go to a run store and it was really helpful. I over pronate a little so I have some shoes with the bar in the middle. I do have to focus on my stride every now and then, but overall I think I’m good. Most of the pain is because I’m really really heavy and putting a lot of impact on my joint.

Thanks for reading & commenting! I’ll let you know how tomorrow goes. (4 miles, but I will be taking a stretch break or 2)

hey, that’s cool that you are doing all the right things to deal with the knee. great job with your 4-miler - awesome work sticking with it! seems like getting past the “ohmygod this hurts andIwannastop” stage is the hardest.
